India's 67th Republic Day

India's military prowess and cultural diversity were at display during the Republic Day parade at Rajpath today. The event was attended by President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guest of honour French President Francois Hollande.

India is celebrating its 67th Republic Day today. President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande, who is the chief guest, witnessed the Republic Day parade at Rajpath alongwith thousands of people.
For the first time, a foreign army contingent - 35th Infantry Regiment of 7th Armoured Brigade of the French Army - marched down the Rajpath during the Republic Day parade. | SEE PICS

  • The pride of the Indian Air Force - three Sukhoi-30s - fly above Rajpath in 'Trishul' formation. 
  • 5 Jaguar fighter jets fly past over Rajpath in 'Arrowhead' formation.
  • The final flypast starts now. Super Hercules C130J, C-17, SU-17 fly over Rajpath in 'Globe' formation.
  • 'Daredevils' of the Signals Corps showcase the signal rocket formation. 16 men on three motorbikes trigger huge applause from the large audience.

  • Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has 125th birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar as the focus of the its tableau.
  • Zardozi, the embroidery art, is what the tableau from Uttar Pradesh showcases.
  • Ramman festival forms the tableau from Uttarakhand.
  • Tamil Nadu's tableau showcases the Toda tribes of Nilgiri district of the state. Toda tribe is one of the six primitive groups of the state.
  • Bihar's tableau presents the Champaran Satyagrah of Mahatma Gandhi in 1917.
  • Unakoti sculptures on display in the tableau from Tripura.
  • The next tableau displays  smart and green city - Chandigarh
  • Rajasthan's tableau displays grandeur of Jaipur and the state. The tableau has a huge model of Hawa Mahal.

  • BSF camel contingent, with 36 camels, march at Rajpath.
  • The tableau of the Indian Navy displaying INS Vikrant followed by the marching contingent.
    On display now is the Indian Air Force's tableau showcasing its human assistance and disaster relief efforts.

    Famous sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik paid a tribute to the nation through this sand art.

  • And now comes this year's special attraction - Army dog squad - marches down Rajpath after a gap of 26 years.
  • Akash, the first indigenously developed weapon system, at display. Akash participated in 1965 and 1971 wars.
  • Powerful Brahmos missiles being displayed at Rajpath.
  • Indian Army's main battle tanks - T-90 Bhishm - displayed at Rajpath. It can fire four types of ammunition.
  • French Army contingent, led by a military band, march at Rajpath.
  • First formation of four MI-17 V5 choppers showers petals, greeting spectators.
  • Republic Day parade begins at Rajpath. 
  • President presents gallantry awards. President awards Ashok Chakra to Lance Naik Mohan Nath Goswami posthumously.
